2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards Full Nominations List Revealed

Stills from Peter Hujar's Day, Ftoys, Sorry Baby, and Train Dreams

The nominations for the 2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards are here. The 41st edition of the awards will once again spotlight the best in independent film and television, with this year’s ceremony set for Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and streaming live on the Film Independent and IMDb YouTube channels, as well as across Film Independent’s social platforms. On the film side, Peter Hujar’s Day leads with five nominations, including Best Feature, Best Director and two major acting categories. Close behind are titles such as Train Dreams, Blue Sun Palace, Sorry, Baby, Lurker and One of Them Days, each earning multiple nods across directing, performance and craft categories. In television, Adolescence, Forever and Mr Loverman top the pack with four nominations apiece, underscoring how central independent-minded episodic storytelling has become to the Spirit Awards’ mandate.Industry-wise, Netflix leads all distributors with 18 nominations, followed by A24 with 10, reflecting how both companies continue to be major homes for distinctive, director-driven work. The Spirit Awards’ eligibility rules remain a crucial part of that ecosystem: films must be produced for under $30 million, with a tighter $1 million cap for the John Cassavetes Award, ensuring that attention stays focused on truly independent projects. Here at Points of Review, our focus has always been on the indie world. Three of this year’s nominated films were already featured on our mid-year list of the best releases so far, and you can revisit that list here.

As awards season intensifies, we’ll be rolling out more coverage, including category-by-category breakdowns, predictions, and our own thoughts on who should win versus who is likely to win.

The Spirit Awards are voted on exclusively by Film Independent members. If you want to participate, you’ll need to join by December 16 to receive access to nominee screeners and a ballot for this year’s winners, along with year-round screenings, events and educational opportunities from Film Independent.
